Apalachee Media Center
Students may choose Media as their FOCUS. Students will earn CTE Certificates in Cybersecurity and Computer Fundamentals and use the Code.Org curriculum to learn to code in Blockly and JavaScript languages.
Coding requires students to analyze a problem, break it down into small parts and encode those parts into a language that the computer will understand. Students who learn to code will increase their reading, writing and listening skills. Students also increase their math, logical and spacial awareness skills using LEGO kits and Robots. Robotics help students with engagement and build nonfiction reading stamina. Designing code for their robot will help students have a connection between the programming world and the physical world.
The Media Center is open throughout the day for students to check out books, research, use computers and read. Students are encouraged to come to the Media Center several times a week. Parents are welcome to check out Parent Resources and visit during Parent Engagement Events.
The opportunity for parents and young children to enjoy unforgettable books together is encouraged by the ATMSA family. We use the Accelerated Reader program to monitor and reward literacy. Most books are labeled with the level. Any books without a label can be searched at: Bookfinder
Students are encouraged to read at least 20 minutes each day, which is shown to increase vocabulary, heighten interest and engagement in reading.
Enjoy a book with your child today!
